Dana from Principled Discovery has written a post called The Homeschoolers Guide to Unhappiness.
I've decided to add one of my own steps to her list.
Do not allow for any deviation from the schedule whatsoever.
No unannounced visitors, and that goes for out of town guests especially.
No spur of the moment field trips. Every one must be completely planned and fit into the schedule perfectly.
No days when your child would prefer to play all day with the microscope instead of doing math.
Basically you must at all times make sure that the schedule is supreme.
I mean you have slaved for hours to create the ultimate schedule and if you allow for the slightest deviation it will throw the whole thing off and then you kids won't know what to do and they won't learn anything!
This is a common fear that the enemy places in the mind of every homeschool mom. I mean we love our kids and would never want to damage them (intentionally anyways). But the truth is that if we skip school or don't get everything marked off it isn't going to damage them.
I think that we teach our kids to be flexible when we aren't ruled by a schedule. We also teach them that people are more important than our to do lists when we are willing to set the schedule aside occasionally for the benefit of someone else.
